The New England Patriots are entering a new era under head coach Jerod Mayo. Legendary head coach Bill Belichick parted ways with the Patriots earlier this offseason, and some fans are concerned about what this new era will look like. Former Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is not worried about New England with Jerod Mayo at the helm. In fact, he recently compared Mayo to Tom Brady.

“Jerod Mayo was the Tom Brady on the defensive side of the ball,” Gronkowski said on Julian Edelman's Games With Names podcast.

“Jerod Mayo was just a phenomenon on the football field with lining every one up and also in the meeting rooms as well,” Gronkowski said. “He knew where every player needed to be during any situation that occurred on the defensive side of the ball.”

This is all high praise coming from Gronk. It sounds like Mayo is the perfect fit for the Patriots because he will continue to emphasize defensive dominance.

“He knew how to read offenses, he knew when to call out plays, and he was always correct when he'd call a play out, or else he was just making the whole defense aware of when that play was going to be called,” Gronk continued. “…He was just always alert, and you could always tell that was going to translate into the next phase of his life.”

Gronk clearly respects Mayo as a former player in addition to being a football coach.

“When he was playing, that's what made him a better player, too,” Gronkowski said of Mayo. “… If you know where to be on the football field, that can make you a better player because you're already in position to make the play.”

We can't wait to see the new-look Patriots in action later this fall.

Rob Gronkowski was also in the headlines recently for his cheeky comments related to Bill Belichick's love life.

Belichick reportedly has a new 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordan Hudson, which has captured the internet's attention.

They took some time out of the same podcast episode to poke some fun at the whole situation.

“Did you see Coach Belichick's date?” Edelman asked just as a grin seemed to about to form on his face.

“Yes. Yes. I sure, I sure did,” Gronkowski said. “He's dating a 24-year-old, a good-looking 24-year-old. He always told us, there's three things out there that [you] don't get caught up in. What were the three things? What was the trifecta, Julian? Can you please explain the trifecta?”

The pair went on to describe how there were three things that Belichick always spoke to players about during his coaching career. The first was alcohol, which Belichick did not partake in. The second is reportedly a–holes. The third is women.

Gronk and Edelman laughed about the absurdity of their former coach seeming to break his own rules.

“Yeah, girls,” Gronkowski confirmed. “Now he's all caught up with the girls! We love you, coach, we love you.”

Gronkowski and Edelman ultimately let Belichick off the hook with a potential loophole since he is no longer coaching.

We'll have to watch if Belichick goes back to living by his old virtues if he takes on a new head coaching job next offseason.
