The Indianapolis Colts have been sent back to square one in their head coach search after the shocking decision by Josh McDaniels to stay as the offensive coordinator with the New England Patriots.

According to Dan Graziano of ESPN, this sudden move has resulted in McDaniels agent, Bob LaMonte, choosing to let him go as a client on Wednesday morning.

Source says agent Bob LaMonte, who represents Josh McDaniels, Colts GM Chris Ballard and many other coaches/execs, is terminating his relationship with McDaniels.

LaMonte had also voiced that he was taken aback by the 41-year-old deciding to revert from his commitment with the Colts that had the team in line to introduce him as the next head coach on Wednesday morning. This was a change of events that called everyone off guard with their being the assumption that McDaniels was set to take the position once the Patriots' season came to a close after Super Bowl 52.

However, it turns out an additional meeting with Patriots head coach Bill Belichick at Gillette Stadium on Tuesday led to a lengthy conversation with the 65-year-old agreeing to have McDaniels involved in the inner workings of the team at a high level to keep him on board. This appears to have shifted their course of the situation as it changed his mind to remain the offensive coordinator in New England.

Beyond that, what may have intrigued McDaniels the most was the potential of being the eventual successor to Belichick whenever he does choose to retire from coaching. He has much familiarity and stability within the organization that he has spent two stints as the offensive coordinator. There are certainly risks with this decision made by McDaniels, but this recommitment to the Patriots could be the start of some big changes in New England down the line.
