The spotlight has been fixed on New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton ever since the start of training camp. Fortunately, wide receiver Julian Edelman noted that this is something he seems to embrace.
There has been plenty of speculation regarding Newton's fit in New England. According to Zack Cox of NESN, Edelman says his confidence is contagious for the rest of the team:
“(Cam) has a confidence about him — all quarterbacks have a confidence, but it’s just a little different with Cam. It’s a vibe that can feel you and get you in a mindset. It's been fun.”
Edelman's comments indicate that Newton has had no problem making a good impression on his new teammates. Although there was some concern surrounding how the former NFL MVP would adjust to the “Patriot Way” established by head coach Bill Belichick, he has maintained his charismatic approach so far in training camp.
While Newton may be in the midst of establishing himself as the clear-cut starter under center over Brian Hoyer and Jarrett Stidham, Belichick has acknowledged the possibility of having multiple quarterbacks running the offense. This could prove to be the first test for the former Carolina Panthers signal-caller to overcome if he hopes to spark a potential resurgence in New England.
Either way, Edelman is once again slated to play an integral role for Newton as the safety net in the passing game. The veteran is coming off a career year that saw him register 100 receptions for 1,117 yards and six touchdowns.
