New England Patriots offensive lineman Marcus Cannon is currently weighing his options in regard to the upcoming 2020 campaign. According to a recent report from Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald, Cannon has yet to decide whether or not he will suit up for the new-look Patriots this fall while the situation appears to be a fluid one at the moment.
Players are beginning to report to training camp this week as the NFL and the league's Players' Association recently came to terms ahead of the next portion of the offseason and beyond.
With or without Cannon in the mix in 2020-21, the Patriots will be one of the more intriguing teams from around the league for a very different reason than usual.
With longtime quarterback and future Pro Football Hall of Fame signal caller Tom Brady now officially a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Patriots have since decided to turn to former Carolina Panthers quarterback and a one-time NFL MVP in Cam Newton under center.
If the injury-plagued quarterback can stay healthy in New England, something Newton appears set on doing as he continues his impressive offseason workouts, there is no reason that the Patriots won't once again contend in the weak AFC East division in 2020. As it stands today, only the rival Buffalo Bills appear to be a legitimate threat to Newton and company.
Of course, it remains to be seen whether the season is actually played for the Patriots and everyone else; the “coronavirus” pandemic is still running rampant throughout the United States.
