After winning the Super Bowl in 2018, the New England Patriots have undergone some changes, especially on offense. The biggest move was Rob Gronkowski retiring. It seems Matt LaCosse will get a shot to fill his spot.

In an article by Andrew Callahan of masslive.com, Callahan says Matt LaCosse is the “odds-on favorite” to replace Rob Gronkowski. The Patriots just started training camp, so that could be subject to change.

Of course, no single person is going to be able to replace Gronkowski's production. It is nearly impossible to replace a future Hall of Famer who caught 79 touchdowns in his nine seasons in the NFL.

Therefore, it's likely that New England will use a multitude of guys to fill the void left by Gronkowski. LaCosse may be the favorite to start for now, but he likely won't be the full-time starter once Ben Watson returns from his four-game suspension.

LaCosse comes from the Denver Broncos. In Denver, he had 24 receptions for 250 yards and one touchdown in 2018. LaCosse started in just five games but flashed some potential as a pass-catcher for the Broncos.

What makes him an intriguing option to replace Gronkowski is his size. LaCosse stands at 6-foot-6 and is nearly 260 pounds. That's around the same size as Gronkowski, but the production is the difference.

Recently, the Patriots also signed Lance Kendricks to provide some depth at the tight end position. Kendricks spent the last two seasons with the Green Bay Packers.

Replacing Gronkowski will be a tall task for New England, but it seems Matt LaCosse will get the nod as the guy who tries his best to replace him.
