The 2017 NFL season was the best one by far for New England Patriots running back Dion Lewis. As a result, he has become perhaps the biggest name on running back market going into the offseason.

Early reports suggest that multiple teams have already emerged as potential suitors. However, according to Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald, New England is not planning to let him go so easily:

“The Patriots have expressed interest in re-signing Dion Lewis, but most of the league is interested, too, according to a source. Pats will have to make a strong offer to keep him. Lewis might get offers as high as 3 years, $18 million.”

The attention surrounding Lewis should come as no surprise. The shifty back finally managed to stay healthy for an entire season. Needless to say, he took full advantage of it by rushing for 896 yards and six touchdowns. He also maintained his reputation as an all-purpose player with 214 receiving yards and 570 return yards.

Lewis' versatile skill set makes him one of the valuable free agents on the market this offseason. However, it has also resulted in plenty of competition for his services. Among the teams reportedly interested are the New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers, and Indianapolis Colts. All of which could use a playmaker at this point.

The high demand for Lewis will undoubtedly garner some lucrative offers, which the Patriots are unlikely to match. However, history has proven that New England has a way of convincing their key members to stay put.
