Carolina Panthers wide receiver Robby Anderson was one of the more coveted free agent wideouts last year following his run with the New York Jets — and there was a possibility that he could have joined the New England Patriots.

Anderson was linked with multiple teams for a multiyear free agent deal, but in the end, he agreed to sign with the Panthers on a two-year, $20 million deal.

However, he did also receive interest from the Patriots for a possible free agent deal.

In speaking during a press conference ahead of the Panthers' Week 9 home clash against the Patriots, Anderson revealed that head coach Bill Belichick made a push to sign him in 2020.

“Last year when I was in free agency, when he [Bill Belichick] tried to get me to sign there, he was like ‘I'm tired of scheming against you, I’m tired of going against you,'” Anderson said.

Anderson noted he did put some thought into joining the Jets' main AFC East rival but opted to sign with the Panthers due to one notable reason.

“It was one of the teams I did consider,” Anderson said.

“It came down to them [Carolina and New England] and a couple other teams. But, you know, just business decision.”

Anderson posted his first 1,000-plus receiving yards campaign last year to go along with three receiving touchdowns in 16 games played with Carolina.

One could just imagine how quarterback Cam Newton's one-and-done season with the Patriots would have gone if he had a formidable receiver like Anderson. And more so, rookie quarterback Mac Jones sure would have what it takes to flourish with a talent of Anderson's caliber.
