The Mac Jones era in New England has been nothing short of disappointing. It hasn't been officially announced that his reign as the starter is over, but Jones is certainly not the franchise quarterback. Head coach Bill Belichick may continue starting Jones and Baily Zappe on separate occasions, but following this season the Patriots will look elsewhere for a true starter.

This is clearly unfortunate for both parties since Jones was selected as a first-round pick, given the keys to an organization that holds a high standard of winning. The Patriots have done the complete opposite this year, holding a 2-10 record at the bottom of the AFC East.

An NFL scout was asked about Jones' talent and whether he's capable of actually contributing to a team with the tools he currently has. The scout gave Jones the benefit of the doubt, and it seems like he believes Jones just needs a change of scenery or a potential coaching change since the wounds he's taken are permanent.

“He can make that throw 99 times out of a 100,” says one source close to the situation, “With his eyes closed,” the scout says, per Hallie Grossman at ESPN.

Jones has one of the worst QBR's in the league at 36.5 and has thrown more interceptions (12) this season than touchdowns (10). This may be a scenario similar to Sam Darnold with the New York Jets. Jones needs to pack his bags and head out of New England, to figure out if he'll be a starter or backup in this league.

“He's still Mac. But you can tell he's taken a few bullets,” says the source. “You can see it in his face. You can see it in his eyes. You can see how he's been deflated.”

It has been a rough NFL career so far for Mac Jones.
