Tight end Rob Gronkowski formally announced his retirement from the NFL on March 24th. Yet despite doing so, many presumed that wasn't the end of the former New England Patriots superstar's football career.

Those holding out hope that Gronkowski could soon return to the field will be excited to learn that he's still in football shape. thinking he may be back, he's in shape, at least. During a press conference to announce a partnership with CBDMEDIC, the five-time Pro Bowler insisted that he's physically ready to play right now.

“What it would take, physically, I know I’ll be there again,” Gronkowski said, per Jeff Howe of The Athletic. “My body feels good. I can even take it further physically, and I could play right now. I mean, I was playing 100 plays in a playoff game. I was playing the whole Super Bowl game (through a quad injury). I’m there physically, and I’m actually in better shape than I was in those games already right now.”

Gronk is in shape, but it doesn't mean that's enough for him to put down what he's doing and come back. Mentally, the desire to play isn't there for the legendary 30-year-old.

“But mentally, the desire to play just isn’t there. I would have to literally just feel that desire — just feel that mentally, that desire to play, to be back out there. Like someone is calling my name, I would have to feel that inside. I would have to feel that on a consistent basis. That’s the way I would entertain coming back to football.”

It sounds like it's going to take some time for Gronkowski to come back if he does. The good news for Patriots fans? He hasn't given a concrete indication he won't.
