The New England Patriots are fresh off of a big win over the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl 53. While the game itself may have been relatively boring, they got another ring with Bill Belichick and Tom Brady leading the way.

One of the unsung heroes in recent history for the Patriots has been their kicker, Stephen Gostkowski. New England has been able to rely consistently on him. He has never given them reason to worry about the kicking game.

According to a report from the Boston Globe, Gostkowski is likely to end up re-signing with the Patriots this offseason. He could test the market, but that does not seem likely.

As for the Patriots’ other key free agents, Stephen Gostkowski seems the most likely to return, whether it is via the franchise tag or a multiyear deal similar to the four-year, $17.2 million one he signed in 2015. Gostkowski is as consistent as they come, hitting 32 of 38 field goals and 59 of 60 extra points in 19 games last season.

At 35 years old, the Patriots would be wise to do what they can to keep him in town. Gostkowski still has another five years at a minimum in his kicking prime. He may even be able to play into his 40's.

New England will be a force to be reckoned with once again next season. People can talk all they want about Tom Brady getting older and slowing down, but he just led his team to a Super Bowl.

Belichick and company should do whatever they can to keep Gostkowski and add a bit more talent around Brady if possible this season. If they can do that, another Super Bowl run will be a possibility.
