The New England Patriots have been without Stephon Gilmore for nearly a month, but they appear to be getting him back on Sunday. According to the NFL Network's Mike Giardi, Gilmore hinted at his possible return on social media following his three-game absence.
Earlier this season, shortly after Cam Newton tested positive for COVID-19, Gilmore would produce a positive COVID-19 test. Luckily for the Patriots, they would have a bye week the same week he tested positive, allowing him to return in Week 6.
The All-Pro cornerback would proceed to play in New England's next two games before suffering a knee injury in Week 7 against the San Francisco 49ers. Since his injury, Gilmore has missed the past three games, which has left a massive void in the Patriots' secondary.
Prior to missing games, Gilmore was playing well in New England's defense once again. In the first six games, Gilmore recorded 20 tackles, two pass breakups, one forced fumble, and an interception.
Of course, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year doesn't get much action due to his dominance on the field. Nevertheless, he's able to contribute for the Patriots when he does happen to be targeted by opposing quarterbacks.
With New England on a two-game winning streak, they are hopeful that they can finish strong and still sneak into the playoffs this season. While it remains to be seen if the Patriots can overcome their early struggles to advance to the postseason, it looks like they'll be getting a much-needed reinforcement in their secondary versus the Houston Texans in Week 11.
