Tom Brady isn't going to play forever and the New England Patriots are going to have to replace him at some point and it appears that the team at least thought for a bit that Josh Rosen could maybe be that guy.

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Patriots did have contact with the Cardinals exploring how they could get a trade for Rosen done.

An NFL official in contact with the Cardinals front office AFTER the trade told me Arizona indicated there was interest from other teams besides Miami, with New England among those exploring a Rosen trade as a potential backup to Tom Brady.

The two sides couldn't get a deal done but it's unclear what side made the trade fall through. The Patriots ended up drafting Jarrett Stidham in the 4th round and maybe he is going to be the project that the Patriots hope will turn into the future.

Stidham said he is just excited to spend time around Brady and hopefully learn from him.

“Tom Brady is obviously a great player and, from what I’ve heard, a great teammate. So I’m just looking forward to spending some time with him,” said Stidham via USA Today. “Just being able to sit there and soak up everything that he’s gone through and pick his brain here and there about different things. … It’s going to be great and I’m really looking forward to it.”

It's clear the Patriots are starting to at least think about life after Brady.
