The New England Patriots are set to begin their offseason workout program on Monday, April 16. However, there could potentially be one notable player who will not be in attendance: star quarterback Tom Brady.

But Brady’s absence will not be because of an injury, a contract-related dispute (there is apparently no issue there, per owner Robert Kraft) or a potentially concerning conflict with head coach Bill Belichick, though. As Albert Breer of The MMQB notes, Brady will be going to Qatar on Thursday for his charity, Best Buddies.

Patriots QB Tom Brady is off to Qatar on Thursday to do work for his charity, Best Buddies. I’m told the plan is for him to head back to the states late on Monday—and I’m sure no one will freak out if he’s not at the start of the Patriots’ offseason program that morning because of it. Right?

Given the distance he’ll be traveling, it seems highly unlikely that Brady will actually be able to show up. However, Brady’s absence on the first day of OTAs shouldn’t be too much of a big deal. If there’s anyone on the team whom the Patriots would give a pass to for missing some workouts this offseason, it’s the reigning MVP.

Brady keeps himself in immaculate shape anyway with the help of trainer Alex Guerrero, whether Belichick likes it or not. It won’t be the worst thing in the world for the Pats to have the 41-year-old legend taking it easy to keep him relatively fresh ahead of the season.
