It was Game 1 of the 2008 NBA Finals when Paul Pierce of the Boston Celtics exited the floor on a wheelchair—supposedly in some sort of pain, but really just in the middle of something much more detrimental to his reputation. Pierce, a member of the Top 75 NBA players of all time, admitted in the past that the real reason he left the floor on a wheelchair was because he had an accident and allegedly pooped his pants midway through the game. In a tweet from The Athletic—which had an interview with Pierce on the matter, among other things—Pierce cleared the air surrounding the context of the unfortunate incident:

Pierce certainly does have a point in that people don't usually “sit down and mush it in a wheelchair,” and this pointed to Pierce's own claim that he never soiled his pants. While this may be so, Pierce did admit in 2019 that the reason for the wheelchair was because he did need to go to the bathroom, as explained by Rodger Sherman of The Ringer:

“Pierce didn’t specify whether the wheelchair trip was a result of him pooping in his pants, but he said that he went to the bathroom and that the reason he needed the wheelchair is because “something went down.”

Regardless of whether or not Pierce really did go in his pants prior to his supposed hasty bathroom-fueled exit, the story of one of the NBA's Top 75 needing to excuse himself from a Finals game will likely never die down.
