New Orleans Pelicans guard Jameer Nelson has been around the NBA long enough to know that part of the hazards of his job is getting your feelings hurt whenever you’re suddenly cut by your team. Nelson, however, isn’t taking it personally that the Denver Nuggets abruptly cut him back in October, per Gina Mizell of Denver Post.
More Nelson, who was waived by the #Nuggets the day of the season opener: "It was bad timing. But it is what it is. I have no bad emotions, mixed emotions or hard feelings about Denver and their decision. It’s a business. I told Tim (Connelly), 'I understand.'" https://t.co/i9QIzx0Hnc

Prior to getting waived by Denver, Nelson was part of the Nuggets’ crowded point guard depth. Nelson was in the running to become the Nuggets’ starting point guard this season along with Emmanuel Mudiay and Jamal Murray but was eased off the team when Denver needed a roster spot to accommodate then fresh acquisition, Richard Jefferson. The decision to part ways with Nelson was also a clear sign that they are committed to developing their young backcourt of Mudiay and Murray,
Nelson didn’t have to stay unemployed for long following his Denver exit, however, as the Pelicans immediately grabbed the opportunity to sign the 13-year-veteran to a one-year, $2.26 million contract. It was a timely deal for both parties, as the Pelicans were then still looking for a way to soften the blow of Rajon Rondo’s absence due to a groin injury.
Nelson, who played three seasons for the Nuggets, averaged 8.9 points and 4.7 assists in 148 games in Denver threads.
He is averaging 7.0 points and 4.3 assists per contest overall this year.
