New Orleans Pelicans star forward Zion Williamson’s recovery from last year’s foot surgery has been a frustratingly long process for fans of the team. Williamson has experienced several setbacks during the process, casting doubt on his potential return this season. However, the Duke product has taken several positive steps recently, as he was cleared for 1-on-1 drills and was also spotted completing an outrageous dunk, providing hope that he could retake the court soon. Williamson’s latest update is another step in the right direction, as reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Charania reports that Williamson traveled with the team to Portland on their four-game road trip. While he remains out indefinitely, this is the first multi-game road trip that Williamson has been able to travel on, as noted by Charania.

With just seven games remaining, it’s likely that Williamson has run out of time to return this season, unless the Pelicans can make some noise in the play-in tournament.

The star forward was an All-Star when he last suited up, as he averaged 27 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game on 61.1 percent shooting from the field.

Given the fact that the Pelicans have managed to stay competitive in the West without the services of Williamson, the future is bright for the franchise once he returns to good health.
