LAS VEGAS – Starting an NBA career could be stressful and full of distractions. Rookies are young men who make a ton of money and, a lot of times, aren't married and have no kids. A ton of money and very little responsibility could be a recipe for disaster. This can bring us to plenty of young players, though we're specifically focusing on a New Orleans Pelicans talent.
For some rookies, all they care about is being great. Pelicans youngster Trey Murphy is that rookie.
In an exclusive interview with ClutchPoints, Murphy shared what he believes his future holds.
“I feel like I will be an All-Star, I really feel like I have All-Star potential, and winning championships are super important to me. I love winning. I can't stand losing. So those will be two things that I look forward to, and I want to play for a long time, but overall I want to make sure I become the best player I can be,” Pelicans rookie Trey Murphy tells ClutchPoints.
It takes commitment and dedication to become a part of the elite in the NBA. If you want it, you have to put in a ton of extra work to get it, which means a lot of missing out on regular fun.
Extra work is something Murphy isn't afraid of when it comes to basketball. When asked about his hobbies, it still included basketball.
“Honestly, most of my time is spent watching basketball or playing basketball. I play a lot of cards, almost any card game. I do a lot of dancing. Sometimes I make a TikTok or two. What else, ping pong. I love ping pong a lot. That's about it,” Murphy confessed.
He says his ping pong skills are top-notch, but is confident his abilities on the court can be even better.
During his second Summer League Game, Trey Murphy scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds against the Oklahoma City Thunder. While not as productive — from a counting-stars perspective — as his Pelicans debut, he was outstanding on the defensive end of the floor.
