New Orleans Pelicans forward Julius Randle found himself on the wrong side of a monster dunk by Dallas Mavericks guard Dennis Smith Jr. in Friday night's game between the two teams.

Smith made a nice back cut at the top of the key and found himself with plenty of space to make a drive to the basket.

Unfortunately for Randle, he chose to try to make a great defensive play by stopping Smith's efforts.

And, well, that idea did not go according to plan.

Every NBA player finds himself on the wrong side of a monster jam at some point, so this simply comes with the territory in a league filled with tremendous athletes.

Luckily, Randle has put together a productive season, and this one play likely won't affect him all that much. The former Kentucky star is averaging 19.4 points and 9.3 rebounds on the year while shooting 54.4 percent from the floor.

Still, he'll probably hear about this play quite a bit when he gets back to the locker room.

As for the Pelicans, there has been plenty of speculation surrounding Anthony Davis' future with the franchise, and that will certainly play a huge role when it comes to their potential moving forward.

New Orleans entered tonight's game against the Mavericks having lost five in a row, which included a 122-119 loss on Wednesday night in Dallas.

With several more crucial road stretches on the upcoming schedule, the Pelicans will need to find more consistency in a hurry if they want to get back on track.
