The PGA Championship began on Thursday and Xander Schauffele had a round for the ages.
The American made tournament history, shooting a 62. That's the lowest first round at the event ever. When asked about it, Schauffele was extremely humble, knowing there are still two rounds ahead.

But guess what? That's not it. He's also responsible for two of the four 62 rounds in major history. Via ESPN:
There's a reason Xander Schauffele is ranked third in the world. He's having a solid season, finishing in the top-10 in eight of 12 PGA events this year. And while Schauffele has yet to win a Major in his career, He's landed in the top-10 on 12 occasions since 2017. He's only missed three cuts during that span.
Schauffele also had this to stay about his historic round:
“I’m very happy with how I played,” Schauffele said, via the Golf Digest. “I’m very content with the shots I hit and the putts I rolled. You know, can’t really take much more of it. I’ve got to go tee it up again tomorrow.”
Schauffele had nine birdies and no bogeys on Thursday and clearly has no shortage of momentum heading into day 2. Making history is awesome, but taking home his first major is undoubtedly the focus.
Xander Schauffele on a roll
Schauffele finished in eighth place at The Masters and just finished second last week at the Wells Fargo Championship. He has confidence right now. He's made the cut in every PGA event this year and has only finished outside of the top 25 once.
He's been one of the more consistent golfers on the tour for years and it's only a matter of time until he wins a major. As things stand, he's at the top of the leaderboard at nine below, while Tony Finau and Rory McIlroy are behind him. Finau has one more hole on the day, though.
We'll see if Xander Schauffele can keep up the consistency and light up the competition on day 2 and day 3.
