The Philadelphia Phillies were dealt a devastating blow when Bryce Harper suffered a hand injury after getting hit by a pitch from San Diego Padres hurler Blake Snell. Harper underwent surgery to repair his thumb injury, and fans have been eagerly awaiting an update regarding his timetable to return to action. On Tuesday, Harper broke his silence on the injury but refused to identify a succinct timetable for him to get back to the Phillies, via Howard Eskin.

When asked about a timetable, Harper said, “I don't [have a timetable]… I don't want to put a number on it. I will be back at some point in some capacity. I don't think it's smart of me to give you guys a timeline when I don't know when at this point.”

Harper then reiterated that he does expect to return this season, which is good news for the Phillies.

While fans were likely hoping for a more concrete update on the superstar outfielder, this is the best they'll get for now. Harper remained mum when it came to giving a potential date for his return to action but he had no doubts that he'll be able to play again in 2022.

As for the team, they'll need to stay in playoff contention until Harper's cleared to return. The Phillies sit in third place in the NL East, trailing both the Mets and Braves, but are within striking distance.

Prior to going down with the injury, Harper was enjoying a tremendous campaign in Philadelphia. The reigning National League MVP was slashing .318/.385/.599 with 15 home runs and 48 RBI through his first 64 games.
