Bryce Harper has been patient in his free agency process this offseason in his search to become one of the highest paid players in MLB history. Now, it appears that the Philadelphia Phillies have emerged as a very likely landing spot for the superstar outfielder.

According to a report from Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports, the Phillies have emerged as the “clear-cut favorites” to sign Harper after meeting with him for five hours.

Philadelphia has been one of the teams linked to Harper all offseason long. They have been wanting to make a big free agency splash, whether that be Harper or star infielder Manny Machado. Either way, the Phillies are trying to get back into playoff contention as soon as possible.

No reports have been given to suggest how much the Phillies are willing to pay, but they can afford to give him the kind of deal that he has been wanting.

Last season with the Washington Nationals, Harper had a bit of a down season. He ended the year batting .249 to go along with 34 home runs and 100 RBI's. The Phillies are in major need of another big bat and Harper would be a perfect fit for what they need.

At just 26 years old, Harper would be a game changer for the Phillies' organization. For a team that has not been viewed as a contender for quite a few years, Harper would change that both now and for years to come.

All of that being said, it will be interesting to see if the Phillies can get this deal done. Harper has interest from other teams, but if Philadelphia is willing to put a monster contract on the table for him, there is a good chance that Harper will sign when everything is said and done.
