The Detroit Pistons enter the NBA Draft with a chance to greatly improve their team. Armed with the first pick in last year's draft, Detroit came away with guard Cade Cunningham, who looks like a cornerstone player. Selecting with the fifth pick in 2022, the Pistons can put a talented player alongside Cunningham.

Unless there are any surprises, general manager Troy Weaver won't get to see the likes of Paolo Banchero or Jaden Ivey, two top-tier prospects expected to be taken right before the fifth selection. However, there are still several prospects available who could help the Pistons address their most pressing roster needs.

What are said needs? Well, a team that ranked in the bottom of most offensive categories should be looking to add scoring help wherever possible, especially if leading scorer Jerami Grant is ultimately traded this offseason.

Detroit could also stand to get better defensively, particularly on the interior. That said, here are the three biggest Pistons needs entering the 2022 NBA Draft.

Pistons' 3 Biggest Needs Entering 2022 NBA Draft

3. Rim protector

The Pistons have a bright future at the center spot with Isaiah Stewart, who has proven to be a solid scorer on the inside, as well as a stout offensive rebounder. However, defensive presence, Stewart is not.

While he has averaged 1.2 blocks per game across two seasons, Stewart has too often found himself in foul trouble, limiting his overall impact on the defensive side of the floor. That will almost certainly improve over time.

Make no mistake, Stewart is the center of the future in Detroit. However, the Pistons, who ranked 24th in opponent points per game, need to protect the rim better than they did in 2021. This is perhaps why the team has had rumored interest in Phoenix Suns center Deandre Ayton.

With a fair amount of center prospects there for the taking in the NBA Draft, Detroit should be set up to land a capable rim protector.

2. Three-point shooter

This is one of the Pistons' biggest needs. Detroit ranked 29th out of 30 teams in three-point percentage in 2021, knocking down shots from beyond the arc at a 32.6 percent clip.

In today's NBA, that is unacceptable. Outside of Cory Joseph and Grant, the Pistons really didn't have a three-point shooter they could rely on to consistently connect from downtown.

That made them a very easy team to defend. If this Pistons team truly wants to improve offensively, they need to bring in some three-point snipers who can put pressure on opposing defenses.

Luckily for Detroit, there should be some capable options once they're on the clock, such as Arizona's Bennedict Mathurin.

1. Versatile forward

In all likelihood, Grant will be traded this offseason, possibly even on NBA Draft night. While the Pistons would net a solid return in a deal for the 28-year-old, they would also be losing one of their most versatile players.

Grant can seamlessly transition between the three and four forward spots, can put the ball on the floor and score and is capable of knocking down three-pointers. One of the worst offenses in the NBA is going to lose that player?

If the Pistons do trade Grant, they must immediately look to the draft for players with a similar skillset. Someone like Iowa's Keegan Murray, who the organization has shown interest in, would be a good fit.
