Detroit Pistons big man Thon Maker has yet to live up to the tremendous hype that surrounded him prior to his big move to the NBA back in 2016.

As a high schooler, the Sudanese-Australian national was a bit of a social media sensation, with his awesome highlight reel earning him the moniker of “mixtape Thon.” Unfortunately for him, Maker has not come close to the heights many believe he could reach. Nevertheless, it has been a busy summer for the 22-year-old, as he puts in all the hard work to potentially resurrect the long-gone “mixtape Thon.”

“The Pistons want me to go back to that, that same way,” Maker said, via Olguc Uluc of Fox Sports.

“It helps us as a team. You see Andre (Drummond) doing that, grabbing and going. It’s not grab and go, and necessarily go finish it. If you have the lane, go ahead and finish it, but more to get the offensive moving, get everybody running. You see Andre does it a lot.

“He’ll come down, get it out to the shooters on the wings, and it’s so dangerous; it’s hard to stop. The offence is flowing, everybody’s spreading, nobody’s waiting and clogging on the lane. They want me to get better in that area.”

Maker and his camp have obviously pinpointed the specific area of his game they want to improve on, and it seems that he is more than motivated to do the same. He has a tremendous opportunity with Detroit, who appear to be more than willing to give him the minutes he needs to develop into a legitimate big man in the league.
