After their strong start to the season, the Detroit Pistons have recently faded and now find themselves on the outside looking in when it comes to the Eastern Conference's playoff picture. Their 28-32 record is only good for ninth place, and they are currently three-and-a-half games behind the Miami Heat for the last postseason spot.

Should they fail to advance to the playoffs, there is growing belief that Stan Van Gundy will likely lose his head coaching job with the team. That is on top of the president of basketball operations role he is already expected to lose as well, according to Mitch Lawrence of Sporting News.

“Stan Van Gundy is expected to at least lose his role as team president in Detroit, if not also his coaching duties, with Pistons exec Arn Tellem waiting in the wings to take over the basketball operations. Tellem, one of pro sports’ top agents for the better part of 25 years, has been Pistons VP and owner Tom Gores’ right-hand man since 2015.”

“Speculation is that Van Gundy will need to make the playoffs to keep his coaching job. He’s completing the fourth year of a five-year deal worth $35 million.”

Van Gundy is not the only coach that could be unemployed by the summer as there are already a number of them being rumored to be replaced by their current teams. If that will be the case, there is a chance the 58-year-old may be hired by a different franchise and could be part of a coaching carousel once again in the NBA.

The 11-year head coach has established himself as one of the most vocal ones on the sidelines. He has never been shy to speak his mind and become a fiery personality for whichever team he coaches. He has called the plays for three different franchises now, giving him a lot of experience under his belt, which could make him a favorite to continue coaching at the highest level, whether it may still be with the Pistons or not.
