The 2022 NFL Draft is considered relatively weak when it comes to the depth of talent at quarterback. However, there is one clear choice that most people believe will be a solid player at the next level. Former Pittsburgh Panthers quarterback Kenny Pickett is likely going to be drafted in the first round and might be the first QB off the board.

Yet, there is one major criticism he is facing; hand size. There has been a narrative going around lately that Pickett's hands are too small for him to succeed in the NFL. Pickett's former head coach Pat Narduzzi says that is “a complete joke,” according to ESPN's Andrea Adelson. He went one step further. “If they want to measure anything, what they should do is do open-heart surgery, go check and see how big that chest cavity is and how big the heart is inside that chest, if you really want to analyze.”

It was announced on Tuesday that Pickett chose not to have his throwing hand size measured at the Senior Bowl. He has opted instead to wait until the NFL Combine.

If this criticism sounds familiar, it's because it should. Former #1 draft pick, Alex Smith, faced the same criticism before being drafted. Smith might not be a future Hall of Fame player, but he turned out to be a very good quarterback. He earned Pro Bowl honors three times during his 16-year NFL career.

Pickett is coming off a spectacular season with the Panthers. He threw for over 4,300 yards and 42 touchdowns, leading Pittsburgh to the ACC Championship.
