Despite Pokemon Legends Arceus being set in the past, trainers can still find Porygon, Porygon2, and Porygon-Z in Hisui. In this guide, we lay out all the details of the location of the digital Pokemon and how you can evolve Porygon into Porygon2 and Porygon-2 in Legends Arceus.

How to catch Porygon in Pokemon Legends Arceus

Porygon will prove a rare find for trainers in Legends Arceus. The ‘mon technically does not appear in any of the “normal” locations in the wild. Instead, players will have to be on the lookout for unique zones called space-time distortions, but these only emerge in the overworld at random. In the same way that you might run around and hope to catch a Shiny or encounter a really rare Pokemon with low spawn rates, you'll have to do the same and hope that the space-time ripple appears.

That said, don't just go running around any area in Hisui to try and find Porygon. You specifically have to be in the Crimson Mirelands, the second major zone in Legends Arceus. To access this zone, players will need to progress through the story by quelling the first Noble Pokemon, Kleavor, in Obsidian Fieldlands, completing Mission 7: The Frenzy of the Lord of the Woods. Then players have to start off on Mission 8: Arezu's Predicament and get to the halfway point to unlock the distortion mechanic. Also, at this point in the game, you would have already unlocked the Wyrdeer mount, so hop on the Pokemon's back to enter the distortion dome when you see it.

  • Go to the Crimson Mirelands and start running around the map. (Make sure you've completed some tasks in Mission 8 to get to the halfway mark. Otherwise, you'll be running around for nothing.)
  • Since the distortions appear at random, you can also use this time to gradually work on your Pokedex research entries. Go ahead and catch or battle wild Pokemon while you're at it.
  • Eventually, you will see a text pop up across the screen telling you that a space-time distortion event has appeared. Travel to wherever the pinned location is on the map.
  • When you get there, you should see a deep purple dome in the sky that is crackling with lightning. The portal will open up, allowing you to enter.
  • Summon Wyrdeer (select the mount on the directional pad and press the + button). Ride the Pokemon inside the space-time zone to look for Porygon.
  • If none appears, exit the zone and keep exploring the Mirelands until the next space-time distortion appears. This could definitely take up a lot of your time. You can continue to complete quests and try to trigger the distortion to emerge organically as you go along.
  • Once you find Porygon in the space-time distortion zone, dismount Wyrdeer and be prepared to catch Porygon.
  • Porygon doesn't need anything special in particular when catching. The usual tactic of striking from the back will help boost your chances, as well as using a Great Ball. But you don't have to worry about alerting the Pokemon to your presence. Porygon won't run away nor will it charge at you.
  • Do check your surroundings while you're in the space-time distortion zone. The items that you need to evolve Porygon will usually be lying around in the area, so make sure to pick those up.

How to evolve Porygon into Porygon2 and Porygon-Z

Evolving Porygon in Legends Arceus will no longer require trainers to trade with other players. Instead, the mechanic is much simpler in the new game. All you will need is a special evolutionary item, which you can (usually) conveniently find within the space-time distortion rifts. Sometimes, they might appear even if no Porygon have spawned in the dome.

Porygon evolves into Porygon2 using the Upgrade item, and followed by Porygon-Z using the Dubious Disc. Once you have the items at the ready, open up the menu screen to select the Upgrade. Give the item to Porygon and this will activate the evolution scene automatically. Now you'll have Porygon2, and do the same process with the Dubious Disc to trigger the Pokemon's transformation into Porygon-Z.

If you fail to find them, you can buy both Upgrade and Dubious Disc at the Trading Post in Jubilife Village. However, you'll need to exchange them for Merit Points, which can be tricky to collect. You might also have other Pokemon that need evolutionary items, like Eevee for example, so be careful about how you spend your Merit Points. To gather more of this currency, you need to pick up Lost Satchels across Hisui and return them using the Lost & Found feature on the menu.
