During one of her streams, Pokimane has been discussing current events in the gaming industry with her fans. Expectedly, the discussion eventually fell to the topic of Activision Blizzard. She was discussing how she feels about the games publisher when one of her fans asked her a question. “What do you think of the streamer who still stream their games?”

Pokimane had a quick response to the question. “I think if you are a financially well-off streamer, you f*cking shouldn't,” says Pokimane, making it clear that people should steer clear from the publishers as much as possible. Short of calling for an Activision Blizzard boycott, Pokimane then felt it necessary to add some nuance to her statement. She clarified: “However I do understand that some people might be in a situation where their income is heavily based around a Blizzard game. But I think in that case, they should still be extremely vocal about how they are against this (Activision Blizzard's actions) when they'll still play their games.”

Pokimane herself has not been playing any Call of Duty Warzone and totally skipped Call of Duty Vanguard, and has not been seen playing any Activision Blizzard game on her stream recently. Her stance revolves around the idea that the exposure streamers give to a game helps keep the publishers afloat. Doing an Activision Blizzard boycott could put enormous pressure on the company's executives, which could lead to them acquiescing to the demands of their employees. But she does understand that some streamers, for example, Call of Duty pro players, have no choice but to play Call of Duty on-stream. Hence, it's also clear that Pokimane is not dealing with absolutes.

As for regular players who don't stream, it is our opinion that you shouldn't feel guilty playing and enjoying Activision Blizzard games. Those games were still made by developers on the ground who still deserve to have their works played by gamers. At the same time, individual gamers' playtime wouldn't make a dent on Activision Blizzard, anyway, and the power to make a change rests in the hands of the few who hold the influence within these large companies. So, go ahead, keep playing World of Warcraft or Call of Duty if that's what makes you happy – you shouldn't feel guilty or ashamed for doing so.
