Paris Saint-Germain superstar Lionel Messi was mysteriously subbed off during the club's last match against Lyon on Sunday. It was Messi's debut at PSG's Parc des Prince, so taking him off the pitch in the second half of a tie game seemed odd.

Messi didn't seem too happy with the substitution in the moment. After the 2-1 victory, PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino hinted at a possible injury for Messi as the reason why he was pulled off.

Sure enough, it's now being reported that Lionel Messi has a knee injury after a scan revealed some damage:

Lionel Messi will not play against fellow Ligue 1 club Metz on Wednesday. It's unclear if this injury (bone bruise) will keep the Argentine star out any longer than that, with Montpellier coming up in Ligue 1 play this weekend and then a Champions League match next week against Manchester City.

The safe bet would seem to be that Messi misses both of these upcoming Ligue 1 games in order to be ready for PSG's Champions League contest. The PSG roster is loaded and should be able to manage without Messi for these Ligue 1 games, but they'll want him around for the UCL showdown.

Let's hope Lionel Messi is back on the pitch sooner rather than later. He's just getting his PSG career underway after coming over from Barcelona, and it would be a shame if the 34-year-old is on the shelf for extended time right at the start of this run with the French giant.
