Deion Sanders approves of at least one of the Raiders' picks. Appearing on Good Morning Football Wednesday, the 14-year vet and Hall of Famer said Oakland running back Josh Jacobs was one of the rookies that impressed him most on draft night.
“There's a guy, that I want the rights to his childhood story,” Sanders said on Wednesday per John Newby of 247Sports. “I mean, growing up sleeping in the car and homeless, on the brink of Father's Day, he has a real father. But I think that guy right there is going to pay dividends for the Oakland Raiders. He is a bonafide baller, his story is phenomenal, he's driven. He's on another fuel, so what he brings to the field, I'm excited to view.”
Buzz has been growing about Jacobs since he was selected. The former Alabama back enters a good situation in Oakland. The team has a clear need for a No. 1 player in the backfield, and also a quarterback that, despite a down year in 2018, has proven to be a quality player at the position.
Jacobs will likely split some carries with Doug Martin, especially early on this season, but the coaching staff is determined to get him heavily involved with this offense, both on the ground and through the air. Jacobs excelled in both aspects during his time with the Crimson Tide.
His story is one that could be made into a movie someday, but first Jacobs needs to land a starting spot and produce for the Silver and Black.
