The Oakland Raiders were able to come through with a big 24-16 victory over the Denver Broncos in their season opener on Monday night. It was a big win for Jon Gruden and company, but it did not come without a major blow to their defense. Johnathan Abram, their talented rookie safety, suffered a shoulder injury in the first quarter.

According to a report from Adam Lefkoe of Bleacher Report, the rookie safety is expected to miss the remainder of the 2019 season due to a torn rotator cuff and labrum.

Abram showed off major talent in his first NFL game. He played three quarters with such a serious injury, which is an impressive feat in and of itself. Oakland has a very tough, young safety and will look forward to seeing him develop over the next few seasons.

In the one game that he will end up playing this season, Abram ended up recording five tackles and a defended pass.

Gruden and company will now have a very difficult task replacing him in their secondary. Thankfully, they received great news on cornerback Gareon Conley, who was stretchered off the field with a neck injury. He seems to be fine and will be good to go in the near future.

Hopefully, Abram will be able to recovery fully and quickly from this injury. Oakland will miss him greatly in their secondary and it will be interesting to see what ends up happening for their defense the rest of the way.
