Oakland Raiders coach Jon Gruden tried to send a message when he released punter Marquette King who is one of the best in the NFL.
King signed with the Denver Broncos and will now get a chance to go against his former coach and team in Week 2. King was interviewed by 9News and he had no interest in giving much love to the Raiders going as far as asking who Gruden even was?
“Who’s that?’’ King said. “I don’t know who you’re talking about.’’
King was asked if he was excited to go against his former team and he said that he is excited about every game that he plays in. The All-Pro punter is an outspoken guy and rumor was that Gruden didn't like that which is why he decided to move on from him.
Gruden was asked if he cares what the media thinks about his moves and he said he doesn't give any thoughts about what others think, he is trying to build the team.
“I try not to worry about the perception,’’ Gruden said in his conference call with the Denver media. “I was in the media for a long time trying to talk about perceptions. The reality is we’re building our team. We’ve had 10 head coaches since I was traded here (in 2002). That’s unbelievable. We’ve had no continuity. None. And we’re building our team and we’re trying to win at the same time.
It will be a story to watch if King does anything on the field to try and show up his former team or Gruden but there is no doubt he will be motivated.
