Following a strong showing in the season opener against the Oakland Raiders, there is an increased buzz around the Los Angeles Rams. This has quickly led BetOnline.ag to push the Rams up to the best betting odds in the NFC to win Super Bowl 53, above the likes of the Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings.
The Rams have become a favorite pick around the league to make a deep run in the playoffs, possibly contending for the Super Bowl. The front office has assembled a highly-talented roster on both sides of the ball that was put on display against the Raiders. Los Angeles hit all gears in the second half of the game taking full command by scoring 23 unanswered points with strong play on both sides of the ball.
Their revamped defense began to hit its stride as the Raiders had avoided testing the strength of their secondary all game, leading to three interceptions including one returned for a touchdown by All-Pro cornerback Marcus Peters. Meanwhile, Los Angeles didn't have much of a problem moving the ball down the field with star running back Todd Gurley playing at an MVP-type level, rushing for 108 yards while hauling in three catches for 39 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Pro Bowl quarterback Jared Goff also put together a solid performance, throwing for 233 yards with a pair of touchdowns in a game where he never was truly tested by the Raiders' defensive front.
Oakland is still working to find their identity on both sides of the ball under head coach Jon Gruden, but it was an encouraging performance from Los Angeles. It is still quite early for these type of projections, but the Rams have the makings of a team that could contend for a Super Bowl if they stay on this path.
