Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay lost faith in quarterback Jared Goff over time, which is why the franchise went out and traded a haul for Matthew Stafford in the offseason. Stafford went out and showed why the Rams made that trade by dominating the Chicago Bears on Sunday Night Football.

After the 34-14 win, McVay praised Stafford's quarterbacking ability, and it was impossible not to see some shade at Goff in his words, via PFT's Michael David Smith:

“It was great job by him being able to flip his hips and make an unbelievable throw,” McVay said. “I think that’s kind of one of those things, he’s gifted, he’s got a great ability to be able to change his arm slot and make all types of throws, whether it be short, intermediate or down the field, but he’s — you’re not limited in anything you can do with him in the pass game.”

Jared Goff showed a lot of promise at the start of his career when he was a two-time Pro Bowler and led the Rams to the Super Bowl, but he was awful in that Super Bowl loss to the New England Patriots and stagnated a bit in recent years. The relationship between Sean McVay and Goff soured, leading to the major change at quarterback.

Stafford had been wasting away in Detroit, so now the hope is he can really shine in McVay's system with more talent around him on the roster. The veteran quarterback looked the part of a star on Sunday night, completing 20 out of 26 passes for 321 yards and three touchdowns. He completed two long touchdown passes as part of an explosive passing night for Los Angeles.

The Bears didn't look like a worthy opponent, so there will be tougher tests ahead. Still, McVay has to be thrilled with the early returns for Stafford.
