The Los Angeles Rams are officially Super Bowl 56 champions after beating the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday at SoFi Stadium thanks to a clutch last drive from Matthew Stafford. But, it wasn't always smooth sailing for this team all season.

In fact, Stafford and Rams head coach Sean McVay had to have a heart-to-heart conversation in November amid a three-game losing streak. Evidently, that changed everything.

Via ESPN's Seth Wickersham:

It didn't feel that way in November, in the midst of a three-game losing streak to the Titans, 49ers and Packers. Something needed to change. Stafford and McVay sat down for what a source says was a “heart-to-heart” meeting. It wasn't just about football. It was about trying to find a winning game plan rather than lighting up the scoreboard each time out. It was about weathering losses for the Rams, something Stafford learned how to do in Detroit. A multigame losing streak in L.A. was cause for despair; in Detroit, it could happen a few times a season. “The conversation wasn't about football,” Kelly told me. “It was about picking yourself up, knowing how to separate football from life.”

“I think I've learned more from him than he's learned from me,” McVay said last week.

Losing honestly felt like second nature to Stafford from his time in Detroit. He knew exactly how to deal with the failures and bounce back. This time, he actually had the players around him on the Rams roster to turn things around. After that skid, LA went on to win nine of their last 10 contests. McVay implemented new offensive systems and strategies, but it all came down to relying on Stafford to get the job done.

Needless to say, he did. All the narratives that he would never be a winner are gone out the window. One season with the Rams and Matthew Stafford is already a Super Bowl champion.

Full circle.
