News of the failed contract negotiations between the Pittsburgh Steelers and running back Le'Veon Bell sent shockwaves throughout the league. Needless to say, the ordeal has caught the attention of players around the NFL.

Among them is Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley. According to Cameron DaSilva of the Rams Wire, Gurley feels players may have to prepare for a potential lockout in 2021 if teams continue to not pay up:

“For right now, we just need to come together and be prepared. You always have to be prepared. We’ll just come together, pull up a couple different ideas and go on from there. You definitely always have to be prepared for certain situations,” Gurley said.

Of course, any notion of a lockout is all just speculation at this point. However, a lockout is certainly not far-fetched considering how recent contract negotiations have gone. Bell's failure to secure a lucrative, long-term deal has undoubtedly raised concern backs like Gurley hoping to get their payday in the near future.

Much like Bell, Gurley is widely considered one of the elite running backs in the NFL. The reigning Offensive Player of the Year has earned the right to expect a big payday. However, if the former is unable to get paid his worth, there is little hope that it will happen for the Rams' star.

To make matters worse, Los Angeles is currently in the midst of finding a way to pay the reigning Defensive Player of the Year in defensive tackle Aaron Donald. With the looming deals of cornerback Marcus Peters and quarterback Jared Goff still on the horizon, the Rams will be strapped for cash in the near future.

This could make it difficult to pay a player like Gurley his due and proper.
