It appeared that Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley was going to suit up for his team's game against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, but that is not the case.

According to Lindsey Thiry of ESPN, Gurley will not play against the Cardinals.

Gurley is dealing with a knee injury that forced him to exit the Rams' loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last weekend. Gurley seemed confident he would be able to play this weekend, maintaining that he would be just fine, but, apparently, Los Angeles thought otherwise.

Of course, with an 11-3 record, it's entirely possible that Rams head coach Sean McVay is just erring on the side of caution and resting Gurley for the playoffs.

After all, it's likely that Los Angeles will not even need Gurley to beat the Cardinals, who are one of the worst teams in the league at 3-11.

Gurley was named to the Pro Bowl last week, as he has rushed for 1,251 yards and a league-leading 17 touchdowns this season, averaging 4.9 yards per carry. In addition, he has caught 59 passes for 580 yards and four scores.

In spite of the fact that the Rams boast such an impressive record, Gurley's injury does come at a very inopportune time.

Los Angeles' offense has been uncharacteristically anemic over the last two weeks, registering just 29 points total in back-to-back losses.

As a result, the Rams are now fighting for a first-round bye, as the Chicago Bears have surged to 10-4 and are hot on their heels for the No. 2 seed in the NFC.
