The New York Rangers advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals after taking down the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 7 on Monday night. After the win, Rangers GM Chris Drury revealed star forward Andrew Copp had a hilarious comment for him, half-heartedly apologizing for costing the Rangers a first-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft.

The Rangers acquired Copp at the trade deadline from the Winnipeg Jets. As part of the deal, the Rangers sent a conditional second-round pick to Winnipeg. That pick, however, would become a first-rounder if the Rangers made the Eastern Conference Finals and Copp played in over 50% of the games since joining the team.

Both came to fruition on Monday night, and thus the Rangers will fork over their first-round pick to Winnipeg as the Copp trade was finally completed. Copp jokingly apologizing to Drury was the perfect response to the big win, as the team would happily take a seat in the Eastern Conference Finals over a late-round draft pick, especially given the team is expected to re-sign Copp in free agency.

Copp has been a key player for the Rangers since coming over at the trade deadline. He featured in 16 games for New York in the regular season, recording 18 points off of 8 goals and 10 assists. He's continued his strong play into the playoffs, registering 12 points across 14 games while up against some tough defensive opposition, including the top-ranked Canes' defense.

The Rangers will hope their season can continue on beyond the Eastern Conference Finals, though they're in for a tough matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Hopefully, Copp can play a key role in this coming series, too.
