The New York Rangers pulled off yet another comeback in the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs, this time finishing off the Carolina Hurricanes with a dominant 6-2 victory on Monday night in Raleigh. The Rangers trailed this series 2-0 and 3-2 before winning the last two games on the back of goalie Igor Shesterkin.
This came after New York erased a 3-1 deficit in the first round against the Pittsburgh Penguins. These Rangers just never die, and now they have the opportunity to knock off the two-time defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning in the Eastern Conference Finals.
This ability to never roll over and die had forward Chris Kreider referring to the team as âcockroachesâ after Monday's Game 7 win. Kreider explained why, per ESPN's Greg Wyshynski:
âI've kind of referred to us as cockroaches. We just didn't go away. That's always been engrained in the culture of every good team I've been on here. We just don't go away, regardless of the score and regardless of where the game is. We just keep on trying to find our game and playing for each other,â said Kreider.

Kreider scored two of the Rangers' six goals on Monday night. Meanwhile, Shesterkin racked up 36 saves after saving 37 shots in Game 6, which also came along with two assists.
New York will have home-ice advantage against Tampa Bay in the East Finals. The Rangers won all three regular-season meetings, with Shesterkin in net for all three.
However, the Lightning are rolling right now. They just swept away the Florida Panthers, the Presidents' Trophy winner for this season, and look primed for a three-peat. It's going to be a tough challenge for New York, but these âcockroachesâ will never go away and will fight to the end no matter what happens.
This should be a great series.
