The Texas Rangers dropped a competitive 6-5 game against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday in Arlington. However, that was the last thing on the team's mind following the affair. Rangers' radio engineer Ted Nichols-Payne died after collapsing in the parking lot outside of Globe Life Field, per ESPN.
Nichols-Payne was 56.
He worked for 31 years as a Rangers employee and for the company now called Audacy. Nichols-Payne worked as a primary engineer for broadcasts from 1995-2010, and resumed the role in 2015. He was a long-time employee who became a staple in the Rangers' behind the scenes work.
Rangers Executive Vice President for Public Affairs John Blake offered the following comment in reference to Ted Nichols-Payne.
“Ted Nichols-Payne has been a fixture in the Texas Rangers home radio booth for most of the last 30 years. Ted's dedication and attention to detail made him an expert engineer who provided an outstanding technical quality to our broadcasts. All of us with the Rangers' organization send our deepest sympathies to Ted's family. He will certainly be missed.”
Rangers announcer Eric Nadel shared his condolences as well.
“We are all devastated. Ted was a great friend and a kind, compassionate and caring person. He so adored his three daughters. Can’t imagine what it will be like for all of us without him. RIP Ted.”
Rangers radio personality Matt Hicks added his thoughts on the passing of Nichols-Payne.
“We are devastated. In shock. Sending love and the warmest condolences to Ted’s family and good friends. Ted was the best. He cared deeply about the quality of his work and the people that he loved. Gone way too soon. May he rest in peace.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with Nichols-Payne's family.
