The Toronto Raptors added a familiar face to their roster when they signed center Greg Monroe to a one-year deal for the veteran's minimum. That face is especially familiar for starter Jonas Valanciunas, who went toe-to-toe with the lefty during the 2017 playoffs, including coming face-to-face during an on-court altercation.

Monroe hasn't forgotten the incident, but he's rather excited to have the 7-footer at his side this time around, according to Josh Lewenberg of TSN.

“That's what happens when you're competing,” Monroe said. “I would rather have somebody that does that than someone who is timid… I'm not going to back down, he's not, so it should be fun being on the same team.”

The Raptors have reloaded quite nicely, re-signing Fred Van Vleet, trading for Kawhi Leonard, and now adding a veteran presence in Monroe, who has proven to be an able scorer in this league and a tough rebounder.

The Georgetown product has even ventured into extending his range to the 3-point line, like many bigs have over the course of the last few seasons — adding to an already reliable mid-range jumper.

The Raptors' front office has been encouraged by the signing of Monroe, a tough individual nicknamed “Moose” due to his broad shoulders and methodical back-to-the-basket approach.
