One of the biggest surprises to come out of Thursday's trade deadline festivities came in the form of the Toronto Raptors retaining the services of veteran point guard Kyle Lowry. The six-time All-Star was heavily-linked to a move away from Toronto, but for one reason or another, the Raptors decided against dealing Lowry away.

Oh, and in case you missed it, Lowry actually celebrated his birthday on the 25th.

Team president of basketball operations Masai Ujiri has spoken out about his team's decision on Lowry, admitting that they did attempt to move the 35-year-old prior to the deadline:

“We didn't know which was it was going to go,” Ujiri said, via Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated. “… We came in today looking at both possibilities [Lowry being traded and not].”

We appreciate the honesty from Ujiri here, but this does put Lowry in a bit of an awkward situation. Clearly, the Raptors were willing to part ways with him, and apparently, the team is not as loyal to him as Lowry is to Toronto.

For his part, Ujiri made it clear that Lowry's future is something that will be up for discussion. However, this won't be done until the end of the season:

“He signifies plenty,” Ujiri said. “As we've always said with our team, we'll revisit that at the end of the season.”

We can only imagine what must be going through Lowry's mind right now. He is now well aware of the fact that he has become dispensable for the Raptors, despite how he's been a loyal servant for many, many years. Then again, Lowry's a pro, so we're pretty sure this situation won't affect how he plays on the basketball court.
