Toronto Raptors forward OG Anunoby underwent an emergency appendectomy earlier this month. His official status is “out indefinitely,” and it sounds like he won't be returning any time soon.

Raptors beat reporter Blake Murphy of The Athletic spoke with Raptors head coach Nick Nurse about Anunoby's status on Tuesday morning. Not surprisingly, Nurse feels that the recovery process will need more time.

“I don't think there's anything close at all,” Nurse told Murphy, referring to Anunoby's timetable for recovery. “I think we're a long, long ways away.”

The loss of Anunoby was unfortunate for the Raptors, as he was becoming a versatile member of the team's second unit, especially on the defensive end of the floor. Some reports are indicating that he could be out of commission until the Eastern Conference Finals.

Anunoby made 67 appearances with the Raptors during their 2018-19 regular season campaign (six starts), racking up averages of 7.0 points on 45.3 percent shooting from the field (33.2 percent from beyond the arc) and 2.9 rebounds in 20.2 minutes per outing.

With Anunoby out for a while longer, Pascal Siakam will likely continue to carry the load for the Raptors at the power forward position. Norman Powell and Serge Ibaka could also see upticks in their usage rates.

The Raptors will be back in action on Thursday night, when they'll travel to Philadelphia for matchup against the Sixers in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Currently, the series is tied, 1-1.
