RUMORS: Clippers, Heat, Pistons, Timberwolves could be potential trade suitors for Kyle Lowry if Raptors elect to deal him
Lowe went on to note that there could be an “exodus” from the Raptors’ championship core at the trade deadline, with Lowry a likely part of it.
Lowry recently signed a one-year, $31 million extension with Toronto. However, according to recent speculations, the Raptors did it not as a sign of loyalty to their longest-tenured current player, but to make it easier for them to trade him should they find the right deal.
The 33-year-old Lowry has been with the Raptors since the 2012-13 season. He was a big part of the 2018-19 Toronto team that surprised the league by winning the NBA Championship, beating the Golden State Warriors in six games in the Finals.
After Kawhi Leonard left the team, though, the Raptors were dealt with plenty of uncertainties. While they decided to keep their core players, the likelihood of entering a rebuild remains.
It’s yet to be seen what the Masai Ujiri and Nick Nurse will do in the upcoming season. They can still compete in the wide-open Eastern Conference, but their chances of defending their title are slim to none.
