The Baltimore Ravens are thin on the running back position, which led to them adding veteran tailbacks Le'Veon Bell and Devonta Freeman to their practice squad. Both running backs did not see action in Week 1‘s road loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, but Freeman could finally see action this season on Sunday. That's after the Ravens have decided to promote him to the active roster, according to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The Ravens' backfield has taken blows over the past few weeks. Back in the last week of the preseason, the team lost starting running back JK Dobbins to a season-ending injury. Since then, the Ravens saw both Gus Edwards and Justice Hill land on the injured reserve list.

Those developments meant that Lamar Jackson will have to carry a heavier workload on offense, and that was on full display in the Raiders game when the dual-threat quarterback passed for 235 yards and led Baltimore on the ground with 86 rushing yards on 12 carries. The Ravens also still have Ty'Son Williams and Latavius Murray, but the team obviously needed more depth in the position.

As for Bell, he will continue working with the practice squad in hopes of getting the call from head coach John Harbaugh.

Freeman last played with the New York Giants in 2020, appearing in five games and coming up with 172 rushing yards and a touchdown on 54 total carries. He has a chance to make his Ravens debut on Sunday at home against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
