Tavon Young didn't play in his team's preseason game on Thursday night. After the Baltimore Ravens' 26-13 victory over the Washington Redskins, though, the worst fears about the extent of his existing neck injury were confirmed by coach John Harbaugh. Young, Harbaugh told reporters, “has a more serious issue than we thought” that could keep the fourth-year cornerback sidelined for the entire season.

Obviously, the potentially season-ending loss of any player during exhibition play is difficult for teams to stomach, but Young's absence could loom especially large to the Ravens given a rash of other injuries at cornerback. A total of five cornerbacks missed practice one day this week, testing the limits of a position that stood to be among the Ravens' deepest.

Harbaugh, though, doesn't seem too concerned about Baltimore's suddenly tenuous situation on the outside.

“Cyrus (Jones) has looked good, and we have other guys we work in there,” Harbaugh said, per The Athletic's Jeff Zrebiec. “All of our corners end up — not all of them, but most of them — (playing) nickel, except the two starters. Brandon Carr plays the nickel quite a bit. We move safeties down in there quite a bit, with different personnel groups. We would rather have Tavon than not have him, but we are blessed at this position with some depth.”

Young established himself as arguably the top slot cornerback in the league last season despite missing all of 2017 with a torn ACL. He signed a three-year, $25.8 million extension with the Ravens in February, a deal that makes him football's highest-paid third corner.
