The Baltimore Ravens' matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs will undoubtedly be headlined by the two players under center in Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes. It appears there is a strong sense of mutual respect between the two.

This will be the second time each of these players got to square off. According to Ed Easton Jr. of the Chiefs Wire, Mahomes feels Jackson has made some tremendous strides in his development since then:

“It’s going to be a great experience,” said Mahomes. “We got to play last year once. Seeing his progression with the understanding of the offense, I mean, I understand going from year one to year two. There’s a huge switch understanding the offense at a different level and it’s let him have more success as a passer. He’s always had talent and it was about learning the offense and he’s done that now and obviously with his running ability, he can still do that. It will be a great challenge like I said, and their whole team is great in every aspect of the game and I feel like we are too. So it will be a great opponent to start off with at home.”

Although they will not ever actually come face-to-face on the field, there is still good reason to be excited. Mahomes and Jackson made history last week by becoming the first players to throw for seven touchdowns and zero interceptions while completing 70% of their passes through the first two games of the season. They will be looking to keep their historic pace going in this AFC heavyweight showdown.

Aside from their stellar starts to the season, Jackson is hoping to take a similar path en route to an MVP award. Like Mahomes, he spent the bulk of his rookie year as a backup before taking over full-time under center. Pulling out a win in Kansas City would be a huge statement for both him and this team.
