Kylian Mbappe had made it known for weeks that his days at Paris-Saint Germain has come to an end. However, it became the worst-kept secret in recent days that the 25-year-old forward will be moving to Spanish giants Real Madrid, with the Mbappe contract talks said to be completed just a day after the club's 15th UEFA Champions League win.
The deal between Mbappe and Real Madrid is done, according to multiple reports cited by the USA Today, with the formal announcement expected soon. The move will become official July 1, when the La Liga transfer window opens.
Kylian Mbappe signs five-year contract

Kylian Mbappe signed with Real Madrid on a five-year, $16.3-million-per-year deal, based on reports, with the forward receiving a $163.9 million signing bonus over a five-year period.
Across his seven-year stay with PSG, Mbappe had 308 caps with the club and scored 256 goals. His stint with PSG came to an end in May with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Tolouse at home.
Mbappe became the third high-profile player from PSG to leave the club in the last two years. Argentinian superstar Lionel Messi left PSG to join MLS club Inter Miami CF in July 2023, with Brazilian Neymar Jr. joining Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal SFC shortly after in August 2023.
Rodrygo, Luka Modric staying put with Madrid amid Mbappe signing
Amid the reported Kylian Mbappe signing, Real Madrid mainstays Rodrygo and Luka Modric are also re-upping with the Spanish giants.
Rodrygo quickly confirmed his return to Madrid after the Champions League win, shutting down links to a potential transfer to English club Liverpool.
“Of course, I'm going to stay at Real Madrid. Why should I leave? I'm staying,” he said.
Modric “didn't care about the money” in contract talks with Madrid and rejected two big contract proposals prior to reaching an agreement, per football insider Fabrizio Romano. Modric is also expected to sign the new contract with Real Madrid shortly.
Mbappe's 2024 Paris Olympics stint in doubt after Real Madrid signing
Ahead of the anticipated signing with Real Madrid, a real question on the possibility of Kylian Mbappe suiting up for the French national team in the 2024 Paris Olympics came into view. However, Real Madrid quickly shot down the notion, in a previous report by Goal.
The Spanish club made direct communication that it will not allow its players to compete in the Olympics, as the tournament is not a FIFA-sanctioned event. Real Madrid's primary concern would be injuries to key players, which may put the club's plans in jeopardy. The club is expecting Mbappe to return to the Real Madrid camp at the conclusion of Euro 2024 tournament.
