US Men's National Team star Jozy Altidore was not happy with the recent statement of Real Salt Lake owner Dell Loy Hansen made after players went on strike due the recent series of racial injustices. The shooting of Jacob Blake was the last straw for many Major League Soccer teams, including his own, choosing to walk out of their respective matches Wednesday after the NBA led the way, through playoff games, no less.

Hansen wasn't happy that his Real Salt Lake players chose not to play as a display of solidarity with the Blake family and the Black Lives Matter movement:

“It's taken a lot of wind out of my sails,” said Hansen. “What effort I want to put into recruiting players and building a great team.”

These tone-deaf comments soon made their way to Toronto FC's Jozy Altidore and others around the league, calling for a change in ownership.

Major League Soccer and the MLS Players Association fully backed the players' decision to strike and not play Wednesday's scheduled matches.

Though Hansen's comments just poured kerosene on an already-sensitive topic, confirming the sentiment coming from the players and others who are tired of racial abuse and inequality.

Owners across several sports leagues are struggling to keep afloat during the aftermath of the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic, yet this kind of tone-deaf statements from the Real Salt Lake owner at a time of social unrest has only fanned the flames.

Players are realizing some owners are only on their side so long as they can make money for them, and Dell Loy Hansen surely seems to fit that mold after his insensitive and selfish comments following an admirable moment for Real Salt Lake.

Should he be forced to sell the team due to these insensitive comments, Altidore won't be far behind bidding to take control of the club.
