Boston Red Sox ace Chris Sale made his return to the mound about a month ago, but now he's about to miss at least one crucial start after testing positive for COVID-19, according to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com.

Sale was scheduled to pitch against his former team, the Chicago White Sox, on Sunday. That won't happen now, though, and the Red Sox will just have to hope he only misses one start as they try to hold their Wild Card spot. The 32-year-old is 3-0 with a 2.52 ERA in five starts since he made his season debut on Aug. 14. Sale was returning from Tommy Johns surgery.

Boston is currently dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak (10 in the organization), which is a big problem as the franchise attempts to make the playoffs. There has also been some COVID controversy on top of this, with Hunter Renfroe claiming MLB told the Red Sox to stop testing for the virus. The league denied this and Boston tried to clarify the situation, but either way, this is a bad deal.

Boston is currently 80-62 on the season, which is good for second place behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East standings. With the rival New York Yankees floundering, the Red Sox are now a game ahead of them in the race for the first Wild Card spot. However, the streaking Toronto Blue Jays are just a 1.5 games behind Boston, with the Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics looming not far behind.
