Nick Castellanos should take it as a compliment that the St. Louis Cardinals were so irked by him hitting two moonshots in the first two innings that they had his bat checked. And that's exactly what happened on Wednesday night to the Cincinnati Reds all-star.

Castellanos went yard off Cardinals starter J.A. Happ on a two-run blast and a grand slam to put the Reds up 6-1 in the 2nd inning. Following the second trip around the bases, Cardinals manager Mike Shildt came out and requested that the umpires inspect Castellanos' bat.

The bat was chipped on top which is what Shildt said caused the dispute on St. Louis' end. The comical part is Castellanos used the same bat in Game 1 of the double header earlier on Wednesday and the night before and didn't have success at the dish and the Cardinals didn't protest him using the bat.

After the umpires gathered they deemed the bat was unsafe with the chunk missing from the top but they obviously didn't wipe away the two bombs Castellanos provided for the Reds.

Perhaps this was just some gamesmanship on St. Louis' end to try and get in the head of the Reds' all-star. Fans booed and some Cincinnati players in the dugout were triggered by the protest that was taking place.

The Reds went on to win the game 12-2 and remained 0.5 games ahead of the San Diego Padres for the last wildcard spot in the National League.

Maybe next time…as there's a drive into deep left field by Nick Castellanos…
